Barozzi Veiga, founded in Barcelona in 2004, works internationally on both public and private commissions, with a focus on cultural, civic and educational buildings. Its work has been widely exhibited and published in the specialist press.

Barozzi Veiga’s built work includes the Ribera del Duero Headquarter (2011), the Auditorium Infanta Elena in Águilas (2011), the Szczecin Philarmonic Hall (2014), the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur (2016), the Ragenhaus Musikschule in Bruneck (2018), the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts Lausanne (2019), the Tanzhaus Zürich (2019) and the two Artists’Ateliers in London (2021).
Currently, the office is developing projects in Belgium, China, Germany, Spain, UK and UAE, as well as the United States, where it has been commissioned to create a new masterplan that will reconfigure the Art Institute of Chicago.

Barozzi Veiga has received numerous awards over the years. Among others, in its first decade of practice, it won the Ajac Young Catalan Architect Award (2007), the Barbara Cappochin International Architecture Award (2011), the Gold Medal for Italian Architecture Best Debut Work (2012), the Young Talent of Italian Architecture (2013) and the Design Vanguard Award (2014). In 2015 the Szczecin Philharmonic received the Mies van der Rohe Award for European Architecture, the International FAD Opinion Award and the Life in Architecture Award. In 2018 the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur won the RIBA Award for International Excellence. In 2019 the office was granted the Chicago Atheneum International Award, the Best Architects 20 Award and the AD Award Architects of the Year. More recently, the newly built MCBA Lausanne won the Grand Prix Fritz Höger Preis for Brick Architecture (2020).

The office has contributed to several international exhibitions and a selection of drawings and models by Barozzi Veiga has been part of the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris since 2019.
‘A Sentimental Monumentality’, an installation and essay presented at the 2016 Biennale di Venezia, defined the conceptual basis of their work. ‘On Continuity’, their first monographic exhibition was also shown in Venice, at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (2021), in Milan, at Politecnico di Milano (2022), and in Budweis, at the House of Art České Budějovice (2022).

Fabrizio Barozzi, born in 1976, grew up in Rovereto, Italy. He studied architecture at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia and went on to complete his academic studies at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Sevilla and École d’Architecture de Paris La Villette. Fabrizio taught at the International University of Catalonia in Barcelona (2007–09) and has been an associate professor at the University of Girona (2009–16) and visiting professor at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (2013–15), MIT in Cambridge (2016–18) and Cornell University in Ithaca (2020).

Alberto Veiga, born in 1973, grew up in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He studied architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Navarra. Alberto has taught at the International University of Catalonia in Barcelona (2007–10) and has been a visiting professor at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (2014) and the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Navarra (2021).

Fabrizio and Alberto regularly lecture about their theoretical background and design approach and participate in academic activities worldwide. They have been invited to present their work at MIT, Cornell University, Yale School of Architecture, IIT Chicago, Royal Academy of Arts in London, Berlage Institute, ETH Zürich, IUAV Venezia, University of Hong Kong and FAUP Oporto, among many other important universities and institutions around the world. In 2020 both were nominated foreign members of the Académie d’Architecture.

The practice is consciously international in its outlook, with approximately 25 people from different countries, working from a 19th century apartment in the centre of Barcelona. Most of our collaborators have grown professionally within the practice, and this allow us to have a strong experience of working in a collaborative manner. The background and skills of all collaborators allow the practice to have a wide range of perspectives, which guarantees as a core aim the delivering of projects of the highest calibre.
