…about Oriol Bohigas: Eva Blanco [FIGUERAS INTERNATIONAL SEATING]

(ENG ESP CAT) ...Disseny Hub Barcelona — a neutral, multi-purpose building | un edificio neutro y flexible al uso | un edifici neutre i flexible a l'ús... by Eva Blanco [FIGUERAS International Seating] [ENGLISH] Unmistakable due to its parallelepiped-shaped upper section, the DHUB has been designed as a space for public use and transit that fits in with the environs. The exterior of the building makes use of only two types of materials: metal plates (zinc, cast iron and aluminium), and glass. The building's structure was dictated by the unevenness of the terrain, which consisted of a difference in level of over 7m. The storey above level +14·50m was built overhanging the square so as to take up as little ground space as possible and keep in line with the changing urban characteristics of Plaça de les Glòries.  The interior layout of the DHUB is neutral and versatile, making it adaptable to different uses in each area.    The municipally owned amenity will be the headquarters of the Design Museum, the FAD (Foments de les Arts I el Disseny) and the BCD (Barcelona Centre del Disseny), with a stable, cross-sectoral programming of various formats. The auditorium, therefore, had to be able to cater to those requirements, and so did the seating. The auditorium has the same neutral, industrial look as the rest of the spaces: oak flooring, and a ceiling of varnished, galvanised steel panels.   Two different models of seats match the industrial line of the building. The seats are not very big, they take up little space and are off-black in colour, for added neutrality. Their prime feature...

(ENG ESP CAT) ...in search of precise lighting with ARQUITECTURIA | en la búsqueda de una iluminación precisa | a la recerca d’una il·luminació acurada... by Ignasi Cusidó + Josep Cusidó [LAMP] [ENGLISH] LAMP’s relationship with Josep Camps and Olga Felip, a married couple of architects settled in Girona, founders of the studio ARQUITECTURIA, began in April 2009, thanks to the collaboration in the Civic Centre project in Ferreries.    The old market of the Ferreries district, a public building unused for decades, had to be renovated and was expanded to house the new Civic Centre of the city of Tortosa. It was a tight budget but did not overlook the importance of good lighting; on the contrary, in fact. ARQUITECTURIA wanted to conserve the building and make the most of the natural light entering through the original windows and, in turn, reinforce this with just the right level of indirect light. Having carried out the relevant lighting tests, in the main hall they chose spot lighting through recessed luminaires around the perimeter. The final result was a pleasant, natural, clean space combining the old with the new, giving life to the activity of the local residents of Ferreries.   For the Piscinas de Jesús project, we also gave ARQUITECTURIA lighting advice. Once again a public project with a tight budget which forced us to work with standard elements. Even so, they both took care of the smallest detail, and seeing how light is taken so much into consideration is very rewarding for the industry.  The special sensitivity ARQUITECTURIA has for light is enviable. The care with which they treat...

(ENG ESP CAT) ...Working with Bohigas. Challenges and opportunities | Trabajar con Bohigas. Retos y oportunidades | Treballar amb Bohigas. Reptes i oportunitats..., by Ferran Figuerola, José Luis Ruiz + Joan Tarrús from CRICURSA [ENGLISH] The first contact Cricursa had with MBM architects studio was in 1995, and since then, we have been assisting them on their projects in which special glass treatments are required. It is a symbiotic relationship in which two specific and complementary agents benefit from each other. The architect, having the company as his/her support, obtains a result which is more similar to that desired. The industry broadens its opportunities thanks to intangibles which go beyond a specific project, in order to approach territories specific to research. MBM has asked Cricursa to perform technological investigations and develop new construction systems. An example of this complimentary relationship is the entirely glass staircase we manufactured for the Gaudí Room of la Pedrera, supported by titanium fixings inserted and laminated within the glass steps allowing it to be fixed to the balustrade, also made of glass. This project produced in 2005, provided Cricursa with a technical development which has enabled us to become part of international projects where similar attachments have been needed. The latest façade to have this technology applied is adjacent to another project in which we collaborated with Oriol Bohigas and MBM architects, in 2003: the Corte Inglés de Francesc Macià, in Barcelona. This project completely transformed the existing building, as well as the architectural concepts used for shopping centers belonging to the chain. For the first time, a glass façade opened the interior of a...
